Oh heavens, do any of us feel like we've accomplished what we should have by some magic number in our lives? And is this perhaps the big 30, which conjurs up the tyranny of the decimal system as well?

I didn't feel like I had gotten where I wanted until I turned 50. Only 20 more years to go! Cheer up!

Seriously, let it go, and have a wonderful birthday. Funny, it seems like only yesterday you were about 9 . . .

actually this year it's Thirty-ONE. i think 30 didn't bother me as much because I was in grad school and felt like I was getting somewhere. But right now I feel like all it got me was student loans and a career I'm not so sure about. Damn North Carolina mental health reform!@

I have woefully low standards so I always surprise myself with all I manage to do. Just kidding. Sort of.

Maybe it's time to reject those expectations and make some new goals. Or rename them. Call them your ideal goals and measure what you've done so far to reach them. But don't let the end goal be the only thing that counts.

Birthdays can be hard. :( If I could bring you a cupcake I would. Cupcakes always help.

cupcakes do help. I went to TJ's and got some chocolate lava cakes -- they're hanging out in the freezer right now but they certainly look like they'll help!

In massive debt with a job I'm starting to hate? Hey, I talked somebody out of suicide yesterday. That was pretty cool! I just called her to make sure it actually worked and she's still alive and in a good mood right now :)
